No fewer than 5 Quality Bus Corridor (QBC) schemes have just been opened for public consultation, at the height of the silly season. They are:
- Tallaght QBC (Rathgar Road to Grand Canal)
- South Clondalkin QBC (Naas Road to Dolphin Road)
- Waterloo QBC (Waterloo Road)
- Lucan QBC (Arran Quay)
- Malahide QBC (Collins Avenue to Donnycarney Road)
More details on all of the above can be found at the ‘Traffic News’ link on the following page: http://www.dublincity.ie/traffic/
The deadline for comments in each case is August 30th. Maps etc. are on display in Civic Offices, in the walkway between the Fishamble Street and Wood Quay entrances. There is also a public display of proposed Urban Village regeneration works on Dorset Street, which may be of interest to cyclists.
I know that cycle campaign groups find it very difficult to find time to respond in detail to these schemes, especially when so many open for consultation at the same time, and without any advance notice. When I was a City Councillor I repeatedly asked the Quality Bus Network (QBN) office to inform the Dublin Cycling Campaign of upcoming consultations, but I don’t believe the situation has improved. So many schemes going out for consultation at the height of the holiday season doesn’t give me much confidence that the traffic planners welcome input from the campaign groups.
